Per our recommendations based on UL testing and national guidelines, a power unit itself must be at least 5 feet away from pool or spa and at least 10 feet from a fountain. So, they are indeed safe to power low-voltage fixtures around a pool/patio - the important thing would really be the IP-ratings and overall ratings of the fixtures being used.
