I plan on using either a 900w or 1200w transformer connected to an exterior switched outlet. Will using a switch to power the transformer on and off as a method to control the lighting on/off cause any damage to the transformer or shorten it's lifespan?

I am thinking about something similar, although my plan is to use a plug to power the transformer, and then run it through a wifi outlet - rather than a switch. That way, I can hook up a motion detector and have the lighting come on when motion is detected. So, thoughts from knowledgeable people would be most welcome!

Thanks for the questions. Using a switch to power a VOLT transformer on or off is fine. Just be sure the switch is rated for the amperage of the load on the transformer.

The same caution goes for using a wifi-controlled outlet.
