I'm heading to our little mountain cabin after Christmas with plans to start intalling my lighting system, beginning with a few mini thin louvered step lights. The kit is there waiting for me so I don't have the benefit of having it in person for inspection, and I have two questions. First, is there any guidance as to the height that step light shouuld be installed on the riser (i.e. high, middle, low)? Second, it appears these lights just installs by being screwed to the riser (wood in my case) with two screws, so I assume the only drilling required is for a single hole to run the wire through, correct? TIA for any asistance with these two questions, and happy holidays to all.

Here’s a link to mounting instructions for this fixture and here is one for step light fixtures in general. As you correctly stated, these are surface mounted fixtures and the only drilling required is for the wire exit. The fixture plate is essentially being mounted dead center (meaning horizontally and vertically) of each riser. HTH.
