Front of house- I want to add spotlights and path lights to the front of the house. There is a walkway from the garage to the front door. Side of house: I have a stone retaining wall and a pathway to the back sliding door. . Any suggestions welcome
Hi there. I’m a fellow lighting enthusiast. I diagrammed your photos to demonstrate some approaches to consider. For the front facade, if you illuminated the sections with the yellow and blue graphics, you’ll have a better than decent lighting plan (IMHO). If you wanted to go from wow to YOLO, you could also illuminate the areas where orange graphics appear. Also, in case it’s not clear, I’ve recommended illuminating the post light column. If you choose to light that facade section behind the post light column your spotlight would probably be staked parallel to the column. To avoid your windows, I’d stick to fairly narrow beam spreads (maybe +/- 20° max) and even narrower for the post light column. For your path lights, I’d go with minis where the upper two stars are) and a max spread near the bottom. I suggest this because I think your light source will be visible if the max spread path light is staked on the upper levels of your yard. On the side, you could highlight the retaining wall with spotlights, floodlights, or well lights. Unless, you’re worried about foot traffic, my choice would be spotlights or floodlights. Consider placing path lights along your walkway, where the blue circles are. I think the light bouncing off of your retaining wall will create enough light to illuminate the path along that section but if not, you can always add a path lights or two to increase safety/visibility there.
