We recently updated the landscaping in our front yard and replaced some of the grass with pebbles/rocks.

We would like to add some can/well/up lights in this area for better visibility and for general aesthetics.

Are there recommendations for the type of light to use? I want to ensure that they are somewhat fixed in their location and that they don't move if the rocks shift.

Endless options, really. Depends on the amount of light you want to introduce to the area overall. In theory, you could illuminate that whole area quite well by simply uplighting the tree (yellow) and/or wall (purple) with either well lights or spotlights. If night sky friendly lights are of interest to you and the lip of that wall protrudes enough for you to tuck hardscape lights (red), that’s another way to introduce light into the area. If you’ve got some ornamental grass or small shrubs (blue), you could highlight them with compact in ground well lights. Finally, you could add a couple of low profile in grade well lights (with a beacon), you could illuminate your stepping stones (green) and walkway. Regardless of the fixture type you go with, once they’re staked or buried, they’re not going anywhere. HTH
