Pathway lighting is an issue with me. What are usually referred to as 'pathway' lights are area lights - think mushroom-shaped. So the light it puts out goes equally all around the fixture; great for an annuals bed, for instance, but half the light on the edge of a pathway is lost behind the fixture. A pathlight is either one that is angled up a bit from the vertical, VOLT'S Traditions Pathlight, for example, or one that has a swivel head. Then most of the light can be directed onto the path itself. I'm disappointed that VOLT no longer carries a fixture with a swivel head, but other manufacturers do. (Hint, hint, if the moderator is reading this.) Since G4, bi-pin bulbs are usually no more than 4w, I like to make the most of the lumens available.
