Hello, I’m looking to add lighting to my house and would like some help. I was thinking well lights at the base of each column (5w 38 degree?) and floodlights (aiming low) on each stone wall near windows. Each stone wall is about 5ft high x 7ft long. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Hey Tim, Beautiful house! For the front door & central driveway area, given the lanterns, I'd likely just consider adding a few path lights to the garden beds if it were my house (marked in yellow). Given the amount of lanterns, 1 path light for each bed could be ideal for adding illumination with over illuminating the entire area altogether. Adding up lights directly beneath the lanterns on the columns may be a tad overkill illumination wise, and in addition to the conflicting light outputs, the lanterns would be blocking the upward illumination (likely producing unsightly shadows above). If you were keen on highlighting the texture of the brick more in the upper area, I'd recommend maybe consider up/down sconce style lights for the columns. These would give you ideal downward and upward illumination. You could likely find a style that complements the existing garage lights as well. We do offer a low-voltage brass Ultra Premium Cast Brass Up/Down Sconce, but I don't believe it would match the existing styles well. For the front sides of the garage(s), I think you had the right idea in mind. For the (2) portions of open wall, you could place the floodlights closer to the wall (within the recommend 12") to help highlight the texture of the brick more; it also gives a nice, slight shadowing effect up the stone (pictured below the marked up photo below for a rough example). The Gentle Splash Cast Brass Flood Light or Cast Brass Round Wall Wash could be ideal for the uplighting. Adding a few more path lights to the garden beds in these areas would help balance out the path lighting and highlight plants in the beds as well. For the small tree(s) [crepe myrtle?], you could consider any uplight really (spotlight or in-ground light). An MR11 style fixture may be ideal for the current size of the tree/canopy, but if you expect that tree(s) to grow a decent amount over the next few years, starting with an MR16 fixture and increasing the wattage/beam spread as needed overtime could be more ideal.
