I like the fact that you have incorporated Ring's outdoor transformer as one of your transformer options. As a newbie my question is how many lights would that transformer enable? Do I just divide 200 watts by the wattage of each light? I noticed that each of the kits was for no more than six lights, is that the limit?
Hi, Geo. I’m a fellow lighting enthusiast. The answer to your question is… it depends. To provide a cushion for the higher demands required to power lights on very long wire runs, it’s generally a good idea to use no more than 80% of your transformer capacity (160W in this case). Put another way, the fewer very long wire runs (runs over 100 ft to 150 ft), the more wiggle room you will have beyond the recommended 80% limit. HTH
Thanks, follow-up question can the Ring transformer operate in multiple zone (ex. front yard and back yard)?
Ring offers single zone control only. You’d need at least one other transformer to control a zone in the front and the back. Depending on how many lights you wanted to power, you might find a new product VOLT sells to be a convenient and affordable work around. https://www.voltlighting.com/nano-clamp-connect-50-watt-15v-low-voltage-transformer
