Is there a trivial way to have a bit more 'portable' way to test a light fixture and bulb?

Without even hooking it up to the Transformer and running wires... just to simply see how much light it is giving off or what it will look like?

First, full disclosure: I do not work for VOLT. I’m a landscape lighting fan like yourself. Before following my advice, be sure to check with VOLT (or whoever manufactures your fixture) and make sure you’re not doing anything that could void your warranty. Disclaimers out of the way, grab one of your 12V cordless tool batteries and connect your fixture lead wires to the positive and negative terminals on the battery (doesn’t matter which wire goes to positive or negative) and that will safely power your light fixture. I’ve found the easiest batteries to work with are the cylindrical ones that fit into the barrel of a cordless drill or screwdriver. The”brick” types with a protruding barrel or the type with several terminals besides positive and negative will work as well.
