There are many reasons why people want landscape lighting on their property. These include: Safety Security Beauty Lighting for a task or recreation To save money Why do you want landscape lighting? Is it one or more of the above reasons? Or is it something else? Please illuminate us with your thoughts. Thanks, Steve Parrott VOLT Lighting
The #1 reason why we were looking to incorporate landscape lighting was to extend our home out to the entire backyard. Previously when we are inside the home, while we had a great bank of windows all along the back of our house, all of the windows "turn" to giant black walls when very little is illuminated. It really made the rooms in the house feel so much smaller. Now that we have a pretty massive set of lighting in place, not only is our backyard and entirely new space and inviting that draws everyone in, my family gets the benefit of also always seeing our exciting backyard even when we are inside. I like the look! At night a home uplighted is not only more secure, but it adds to the beauty of the place. We don't have an exclusive home by any means, but when the perimeter is uplighted and a couple of trees in the front yard as well, it just makes it look awesome. The shadows cast etc. just create a new dimension. Several homes in our older neighborhood have landscape lighting and it's a nice accent.
All of the above! We put a lot into our garden beds.. and will soon be focusing on turf. Lighting adds a new way to enjoy our beds at night, in different ways. The shadows cast by a feathery astilbe... a well lit hedgerow....a new dimension of enjoyment.
landscape lighting really can make a home "POP" when done right. adds value and beauty. You can change it up and move it around fairly easily when new landscaping is planted. and Damn easy to install.
Security is a factor, but only a small one. I wanted to do two things. First, we wanted to light up our walkways so it would be safer coming and going at night, especially in the winter when nights get very long and we're almost always coming and going after dark. Second, it just looks great. We have one of the few homes in the area with anything more than solar "runway lights" and it absolutely adds a lot of curb appeal having the house and yard lit up at night. We have a very inviting ambiance outside now.
