    Greetings!

I am looking to light up a "pathway" on the side of my house going from the front of the house to the pool in the back. I am looking for some advice / opinion on how to accomplish it.

Here is what the "pathway" looks like.

12 ft wide and 48 ft long that I would like to illuminate.

I have thought about using the following pathway lights.

Hi, Ryan. My first impulse would be to mount a few deck lights or hardscape lights (see links below) to the fence. You’ve got this nice blank white fence you could use if you wanted to avoid placing fixtures at ground level. But as long as you don’t think grass cutting or other lawn maintenance would be problematic, then, low profile fixtures like the ones you’re considering would work great. Bear in mind that the glossy white surface of that fence will reflect a lot of light so, depending on your lamp lumens, you may only need 2-3 fixtures to create enough safety lighting.

    Mesodude2,

Where on the fence would you put the lights at? near the top?

I am thinking on the fence posts as well.

    Thanks!

The deck light and the dojo would probably be best on posts at no higher than waist height (see the deck light product video). The dojo could go higher if you wanted (because the light source is less visible than that of the other fixtures). The hardscape light would probably be best tucked underneath the top backer rail. The lamp holder is rotatable so it should be easy to avoid having the light shining in your eyes.

OK. Spring time is coming up fast. Time to start on outdoor projects.

Lighting is one of the first projects I want to finish up.

I am going to use the following light on the fence posts. The more I thought about what you said, putting the lights on the fence post will be better and out of the way.

The lights most likely will be attached half way up the posts, now the question I have is how many lights should I use? Attach the lights to every other post? or skip 2 fence posts between lights?

    Thanks!

Photo from a product review of a deck light. Fence look familiar? You can adjust the lumens by altering the wattage of the G4 bulb. I use a 3W bulb in mine, mounted to a red brick wall. Light is more than adequate. Bob

I like Bob’s example but given that the light will be bouncing off that glossy finish on your bright white fence, I think you might find 2W lamps are adequate.

    @Robert Mason and @Mesodude2,

    Thank you for your input.

Robert, I really like the picture you posted. That is a great visual and is where I am going to place the lights at. I will place the lights on every other post.

After checking the posts, I only have on post that will be a pain as the contractor who did the fence (it is my neighbor's fence, not mine.) filled one of the fence posts with concrete. I am going to have to run the wire up the side unless anyone has any other suggestions.

    Thanks again!

Ryan: Hide the wire in a white cable race. Lowes, Home Depot and Amazon sell them. Won't be as obvious that way. Bob

I was going to recommend tucking the wire in a fence post corner with with some exterior grade putty and then painting it but I like Bob's idea even better.
