We just did some landscaping for the side of the house. Currently we have volt all star spotlights and max spread path lights. We're going to add hardscape lights to the retaining wall. I'm looking to add 3 lights to the side of the house. 1 all star spotlight for the Arizona Cypress which is centered, and either 2 all star spotlights or the gentle splash or wide splash Looking for your opinion if I should go with spotlights or flood lights for the areas to each side of the cypress. Eventually the landscaping will fill in but not looking to highlight the exhaust pipes on the left or the fireplace vent on the right. I appreciate any suggestions. thanks,
We did the Lusitano cast brass spotlight with the MR16 3W led bulbs. We got the 110 degree and 2700 color bulbs. Originally I was going to space them apart like you were thinking on either side of the tree, however once we started moving them (at night) we thought the best look was having them side by side facing 45degree angles from each other. We love the look and the shadows they make! Another thought if you’re worried about highlighting vents would be to add the lights on a higher telescopic pole behind your plans (close to your home) facing downward and outward.
Hi, Keith. I like the idea of just experimenting and having fun with that blank wall while you wait for those shrubs to fill in that side of the house. You could "paint" that wall by spacing spotlights of the same or differing beam spreads either part way or the entire length of that wall. Obviously if light trespass isn't an issue for that window you'd have pretty much unlimited beam spread configuration options. If you're feeling a bit more adventurous, you could uplight a favorite statue or lawn ornament so that its shadow is projected against the house. Also, FYI, a neighbor of mine used a set of wood panels like the one I've posted here to hide her AC unit and utility panels until her shrubs filled in and she ended up liking it so much that she kept it in place. Thank you both for your suggestions. I think I'll use the all star spotlights and try a couple different beam spreads. I think I was so focused on lighting up the landscape that I didn't give much thought to uplighting the wall.
