Hi Everyone. I recently purchased two sets from Costco (https://www.costco.com/volt-landsca...-brass-led-starter-kit.product.100367623.html) and need help laying them out. I have 12 flood lights and 6 pathway lights. My house has some odd shadow places caused by taller bushes that are in the front of the house. Would appreciate some insight and guidance as we have just purchased the house and want to make it pop / stand out a bit more. Thanks for your time! Chris
Hi, Chris. I’ve diagrammed a couple of your photos to show you the typical, can’t-miss approach where one simply uplights the broadest sections of the facade, avoiding the windows as much as possible. I’d recommend narrow beam spread lamps for the spotlights you’d aim at the posts at the base of the steps as well as honeycomb filters to address glare from those fixtures. As an alternative plan, you could instead illuminate the pairs of columns framing your front porch and place a path light or two at the base of your steps. Depending on what other vantage points you want your house to be seen from at night, you could also uplight the sides and rear of your home as well. Because I couldn’t discern a path or walkway in your photos, I just marked a couple of areas where I might place path lights. It’s a good idea to illuminate entryways, places where there are transitions (like the corners of your house or where your lawn meets your driveway) and trip hazards. If there’s a favorite planting bed you want to show off at night, this is also a great use for your path lights. Hope this was helpful to get your creative juices going.
