We installed two transformers and both spot and pathway lights on two sides of our home and are very happy with the results. However, we have one dark spot that cannot be reached easily by either transformer box. We do have outlets located in the dark spot and could purchase another transformer but since the outlet is on our front porch we want one that is very small and it only needs to support one spot light. Does anyone have a recommendation? Thank you.

    Hi Jill,

Thanks for your question. A few thoughts.

First, the smallest transformer we carry is our 75W model. It measures 6.88" tall, 3.75" wide, by 4.25" depth.

Second, whichever outlet you use, it needs to be GFCI protected. Check that the outlet has the test and reset buttons to know whether or not it is protected.

Third, as you know since you have two other transformers, the transformer has a 5-ft power cord, so it may be possible to plug the cord into the porch outlet and still mount the transformer out of sight next to the porch.

Third, while you say this single fixture is too far from the other transformers, you might consider running a single wire from one of the transformers to the new fixture location. It may be a long run, but you can go up to 150 ft. on a 12 gauge wire, up to 250 ft. on a 10 gauge wire. These wires would need to buried at least 6" underground. Your decision whether or not this is preferred over an additional transformer.

Fourth, if you decide to look for a transformer from another manufacturer, make sure it's ETL or UL listed, and that it has a magnetic toroidal core.

    Thanks again,

    Steve

Thank you for your response and your information, we did exactly what you suggested with the wiring and it worked fine, and it looks great!
