Our community has two small connected ponds (about 1-2 feet deep) in front of a large lake. I think we will be replacing the lining soon, so I would like to replace all of old path lights and spotlights with something in the water. Each pond is about 30 feet long and 15 feet deep, and the entry faces the long side. The ponds each have a small bubbling waterfall in the corners, and they have water pathways on the opposite sides that lead toward the lake.

I would like to know how many lights I should use and where I should place them (in the corners, the middle, next to the waterfall, etc.)

A decent landscape lighting consultant would want to walk the property with you, inquire about your budget, your priorities (safety vs aesthetics) and about existing lighting conditions (dark sky or street lights nearby?) that will influence your decision-making about brightness level and fixture number, etc. Speaking only for myself, a photo of your property (1MB or smaller) would help me offer more meaningful guidance.
